The Author's Story Behind Train4NOW | Study4NOW: Why They Exist
Audio script, read by Darryl Scott.
Hello, I'm Darryl Scott.
My journey into this work began at 16, when I started working in community services. Since then, I have spent more than 40 years across hospitality, disability support, community services and adult education. My experience comes from hands-on work in real places, alongside people with diverse needs and responsibilities.
Since the late 1990s, I have worked in education across non-government organisations, universities and adult learning settings. From 2009 to 2019, I owned and ran a Registered Training Organisation, delivering qualifications in community services, disability and mental health. In this role, I was directly responsible for compliance, assessment design, governance, quality assurance, trainer development and learner support. The work required formal qualifications, ongoing professional learning, and accountability to national standards.
Alongside education, I have over 15 years of experience managing and training hospitality teams in Samoa, and in Coonamble, a regional town in New South Wales. This covered frontline service, operations, customer experience, and staff training under real service conditions. It taught me how learning must work in busy, high-pressure workplaces, where training supports the work instead of interrupting it.
My study placements also included social work practice. This practice grew into the WalkSafe project, which I built from the ground up and later registered as a non-government organisation. The project focused on community safety and crime prevention, delivered directly within the community. For this work, I received a crime prevention certificate from the Queensland Police, and a community participation award from the New Farm Neighbourhood Centre, recognising the programme and its impact on the local community.
I am currently completing a Master of Education, specialising in disability, technology and inclusive learning design. My study builds on my professional experience with research-based frameworks, to strengthen practical, workplace-focused learning.
I am also dyslexic. I have studied and gained university and vocational qualifications in sociology, social work, technology, and business with community services, all while living with this learning difference. So I know first-hand: text-heavy, one-size-fits-all training fails many capable people. The issue is not ability or motivation. The problem is how training is designed, and how well it fits real work and real learners.
Train4NOW grew directly from this journey. It brings together my work in hospitality, community services, education and disability, with my study and professional qualifications, to offer a different approach to learning. It focuses on practical skills, short learning sessions, and many ways to engage: listening, watching, doing, and applying skills in real situations.
Study4NOW is the learner side of this work. Its app, the S4NOW app, is a study workspace for students and learners. You bring your learning or assessment material into one place, and work through it your way. You read it, listen to it, plan it, and build your own response. The app supports your thinking. It does not do your assessment for you. Your work stays your work. Accessibility sits at its centre, with read aloud, speech input, and fonts and spacing you choose. Study4NOW launches in late 2026.
Across Train4NOW and Study4NOW, technology and AI are support tools. They improve access, flexibility and clarity, while people, judgement and experience stay at the centre of learning.
Train4NOW and Study4NOW exist to help individuals, learners, teams and businesses build confidence and capability, without stepping away from work or study, and without relying on training which never translates into practice.
Thank you for being here.
